PGBA, a Celerian Group Company and a subsidiary of Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina, who provides high-volume claims processing, contact center operations, and contract performance services for government and private healthcare payers will be laying off 244 employees associated with servicing the Veterans Administration Choice program for Blue Cross Blue Shied of South Carolina.. The decision was driven by the loss of their Veterans Administration Choice contact and will affect employees at the Florence and Surfside Beach offices. The layoffs come as no surprise for the employees who were notified in August 2018 of the impending reduction-in-force.
At the time of the August announcement, President and Chief Operating Officer of PGBA Mick Skarupa noted, “This action is difficult, but we remain committed to keeping everyone informed on all key developments. While disappointing, scaling workforce to workload is a well-known challenge in providing contractual services for the federal government.”
