NO LOVE AT ELECTROLUX (10/30/23)

Am I Next? 900 Layoffs at Electrolux (Minnesota) plant closure

OCTOBER 30, 2023 — 3,000 MORE EMPLOYEES TARGETED

The company plans to cut another 6.5% of its workforce or 3,000 employees.

According to a company spokesperson, “This is an entirely new program of staff reductions. We see this weak demand situation persisting in the near term.”

“A key driver for any turnaround would be for interest rates to stabilize or decline. We have no other option than to plan for this environment to go on for a period. Our customers still have challenges to overcome going forward, so we’re acting accordingly.”

OCTOBER 27, 2022 — 4,000 EMPLOYEES

The company plans to scale back its North American operations in a cost-saving initiative that will impact approximately 8% of its workforce or 4,000 employees.

The decision was driven by surging inflation and deteriorating housing markets impacting consumers as they are reducing spending on non-essential appliances and upgrades.

Swedish multinational home appliance manufacturer headquartered in Stockholm will permanently lay off 900 workers and shut down it St. Cloud, Minnesota Frigidaire upright freezers manufacturing plant in 2019 and transfer its operations to an expanded and modernized facility in Anderson, South Carolina.

The decision to close the plant and relocate its operations is part of a restructuring program designed to modernize its U.S. operations. The employees were given notice in January 2018 and will be eligible for a variety of long-term training programs.

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
