San Jose, California-based McAfee, an iconic cybersecurity provider, has announced a major reduction in force at its Hillsboro, Oregon offices impacting approximately 107 employees, most of whom are software developers and support personnel. The layoffs are scheduled in December 2019.

According to a company spokesperson, “McAfee continues to invest in growth areas and optimize processes to put the customer at the core of everything we do and to accelerate our device-to-cloud cybersecurity strategy. To do this, we must balance the needs of the business with those of our workforce. We approach these decisions thoughtfully and with care for impacted employees.”

The company’s major shareholder is San Francisco, California–based TPG Capital, a private equity firm, with the iconic chipmaker Intel holding a minority position. The company is said to be positioning itself for an IPO. This is the second layoff this year for McAfee, the first being a 200-employee company-wide layoff in January 2019. At that time, a company spokesperson noted, “To accelerate our device-to-cloud cybersecurity strategy, McAfee is investing in growth areas and optimizing processes to put the customer at the core of everything we do. As we make changes, we are balancing the needs of the business with those of our workforce, approaching these decisions thoughtfully and with care for impacted employees.”

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
