AM I NEXT? NO LOVE -- LAYOFFS AT MAPR

Am I Next? MapR running out of money, layoffs possible.

Santa Clara, California-based MapR Technologies, once a high-flying unicorn in the tech world with their data platform for AI and Analytics, is warning its 122 employees of an impending shutdown should the company fail to attract additional financing or arrange a merger or sale to avoid a permanent closure of the enterprise.

According to MapR Chairman and CEO John Schroeder, β€œThe company is actively continuing to pursue financing and other strategic transactions that might allow it to avoid closing its Santa Clara site. In fact the company has received, and the Board of Directors is currently considering two letters of intent submitted by two different entities. While MapR is optimistic about the possibility of a strategic transaction taking place, such things are inherently uncertain. For that reason, MapR concluded that the most prudent course of action was to provide Santa Clara employees with the notice required under applicable law (WARN) while it continues to pursue a transaction that if successful may permit it to keep the Santa Clara site open and retain many of the employees that might have otherwise been affected.”

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life, or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
