MARCH 10, 2020 — 35 LAYOFFS AT AMERICAN TECHNICAL CERAMICS IN HUNTINGTON STATION, NEW YORK

Continuing with the third-phase of layoffs, the company has announced that 35 employees will be laid off at its Huntington Station, New York facility commencing June 5, 2020. The facility is scheduled to be shuttered by the end of the year.

The plant’s previous production processes were transferred to Mexico, with a minor number of processes sent to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Fountain Inn, South Carolina-based AVX Corporation, a subsidiary of Japan-based Kyocera and a manufacturer/distributor of advanced electronic components, has announced a four-phase layoff plan at their Sun Valley, California facility that will commence September 27, 2019 and will result in the layoff of 103 employees when completed. This includes design engineers, manager, supervisors, machine operators and assemblers.

Previously the company announced 92 layoffs at the recently acquired American Technical Ceramics and moving its thin-film products group from its Jacksonville, Florida plant to the company’s existing facility in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

In announcing its preliminary first quarter results, the company noted that “our various distribution channels experienced weaker activity as inventories remain extended. The economic environment is in flux, and uncertainties with respect to international relations and trade regulations continue to put pressure on the global economy.”
