MAY 6, 2021 — KINGS MOUNTAIN FACILITY CLOSING WITH 265 LAYOFFS

The company has announced that it will permanently close its Kings Mountain facility by the end of 2021 and lay off all 265 employees who work in the plant which produces Baldor Reliance industrial electric motors

Layoffs are scheduled to commence on or July 6, 2021, with additional layoffs occurring on August 7, 2021.

According to a company spokesperson, “The Kings Mountain business has also been heavily impacted by negative market conditions in both the oil and gas and mining industries. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to close the plant.”

The company’s operations will be transferred to an Athens, Georgia plant or the company’s other facilities.

MARCH 2, 2021 — WEST BURLINGTON, IOWA PLANT CLOSURE WITH 297 LAYOFFS

Zürich, Switzerland-based ABB, an industrial conglomerate specializing in automation technology, robotics, power, and heavy electrical equipment, has announced that it will be closing its switchgear operations facility in West Burlington, Iowa. The closure will impact 279 employees commencing on April 16, 2021.

According to a company spokesperson, the decision was driven by an effort to scale back on ABB's factory network while expanding and modernizing remaining facilities and bringing together similar products into one location. We decided to make our Mebane, North Carolina, plant ABB’s U.S. manufacturing center for low- and medium-voltage distribution solutions. It is a very difficult business decision for ABB to close West Burlington production by the end of June 2021. This decision is in no way related to the performance of our local team."

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
