AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT GREEN VALLEY PEACAN COMPANY

Am I Next? Green Valley Pecan Company to cease pecan shelling.

Sahuarita, Arizona-based Green Valley Peacan Company, a division of Farmers Investment Co., a pecan growing, processing, and distributor of pecan products, has announced that it will shut down its pecan processing plant in Sahuarita by the end of 2021, with the closure of its Pecan Store in early 2022.

The closure will affect 130 employees. The company will complete shelling in its Sahuarita facility through December 2021 and ship the plant's final orders through January and February 2022. The plant will be used for cold storage and shipping for pecans produced on the farm, with shelling outsourced to a third-party sheller.

According to a company spokesperson, "FICO is taking this action because of a challenging global pecan market resulting from tariffs, low-cost competition from Mexican pecan processors, and the financial impacts from COVID-19. These factors combined to make it unsustainable to continue shelling pecans in Sahuarita."

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
