AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT COOLEY, LLP.

Palo Alto, California-based Cooley LLP, a full service law firm specializing in the technology sector, has announced a reduction in force acoss its U.S. offices.

The reduction will impact 78 attorneys and 72 paralegals and business professionals nationwide. No partners were laid off and most of the attornies affected are associates.

According to firm chairman and CEO Joe Conroy, “We made the difficult decision to implement this workforce reduction to better align with current and anticipated demand across a number of our practice areas. Decisions like these are never made lightly, and we are keenly aware of the human lives that will be impacted.”

"The firm’s recruitment surge was misaligned with an unexpected downturn that has occurred which is likely to persist well into 2023. The firm’s ability to provide sufficient professional development support for employees has been meaningfully compromised as a result. Simply put, we hired more talent than we can reasonably develop, train and deploy against current and anticipated client demand."

“Notwithstanding the painful but necessary steps we have taken to adjust our overcapacity, Cooley is well-positioned for long-term success and my confidence in our collective future is unwavering.”

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
