AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT SOUTHERN MOTION

Pontotoc, Mississippi-based Southern Motion, a furniture manufacturer of recliners, sofas, loveseats, sectionals, and home theater furniture has announced an involuntary reduction in force after offering voluntary layoffs.

"Due to the recent slowdown in furniture demand, we have entertained requests for voluntary layoffs."

The involuntary layoffs will impact 250 employees.

The President and CEO of Southern Motion and Fusion Furniture, Mark Weber, noted “Due to a temporary industry slowdown in the demand for upholstered furniture, Southern Furniture Industries (Southern Motion & Fusion Furniture companies) regretfully had to reduce our workforce this past week in order to match our production capacity to the current demand environment. This reduction impacted less than 15% of our approximately 1,900 associates across multiple sites throughout North Mississippi. These are always difficult decisions, and it is our hope to rehire these associates in the near future as demand improves.”

According to Dave Hodorff, senior vice president of operations, "We have determined a reduced workforce may help us return to a 36 or 40-hour weekly schedule. Before any layoff decisions are made we are actively seeking anyone who may wish to volunteer for layoff status."

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
