AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT GILDAN

Charleston, South Carolina-based Gildan, a Canadian producer of apparel, socks, and legwear, has announced the closure of its U.S. plant located in Salisbury, North Carolina, by the end of 2023.

The closure will impact 258 employees, with layoffs commencing on December 8, 2023.

According to a company spokesperson, “This facility is being closed as part of Gildan’s plan to continue to balance production and inventory levels to drive an efficient and competitive manufacturing platform.” said Jim Powers, director of human resources at Gildan in Sanford, in a letter to state officials. While the Salisbury ring spinning plant will be closed following this reorganization, we are offering the vast majority of impacted employees the opportunity to be transferred to one of our other yarn-spinning facilities in North Carolina, primarily our ring spinning facility located in Mocksville.”

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
