AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT JEFFERSON HEALTH

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based Jefferson Health, a multi-state non-profit health system, has announced a major reduction in force.

The personnel action will impact approximately 400 employees or 1% of the workforce, mostly among corporate and administrative employees.

According to Jefferson's CEO, Joseph G. Cacchione, "This decision was not made lightly, and Jefferson is not alone in needing to make this challenging choice. As has been widely reported, there are incredible financial pressures on healthcare and higher education organizations across the country. There are decreased patient volumes at the same time as double-digit increases in costs, and the economic models that support many payer-provider relationships do not yet reflect all the ways the environment is changing.

"Our ability to be sustainable now and in the future is critical to serving all of our communities, including those with the most need but less access to high-quality care. We are focused on continuing efforts to optimize and integrate our operations in ways that allow us to stay true to our focus on quality patient care, education, research, safety, and health equity."

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
