LAYOFFS: NO LOVE AT HEALTH CARE SERVICES CORPORATION

Am I Next? Health Care Services Corporation - restructuring and layoffs.

Chicago, Illinois-based Health Care Service Corporation, the parent company that owns Blue Cross & Blue Shield plans in Illinois, Texas, Montana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico, has announced a restructuring program that will impact 400 employees across the enterprise.

According to a company spokesperson, the organization is being flattened by the elimination of middle management positions that will “reduce organizational redundancy and improve decision-making efficiency and to prepare for future growth. In general, to best serve our customers now and into the future of the rapidly changing health care landscape, we are rebalancing our resources to meet the diverse needs of our customers, provider partners and other stakeholders. The planning process we’ve gone through is built around our business strategy to address inefficiencies and redundancies in roles and responsibilities, shift more resources to the local markets, and enhance our member services and customer-facing capacity,”

To be noted, the company lost several c-level executives last year including its CEO, CFO, CIO, and CHR.

Some believe that with increased management stress on professional dress codes, the company may be beautifying itself for possible acquisition or joint venture to deal with the vagaries of the healthcare market, especially reduced revenues, reimbursement rates, and new performance-based payment schemes.

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
