Rancho Cordova, California-based VSP Optical Group, a subsidiary of VSP Vision, and a comprehensive provider of optical products, including prescription eyewear, has announced a consolidation of its optical laboratories and distribution network.
The consolidation will see optical laboratories and distribution facilities in Baltimore, Maryland; Charlotte, North Carolina; New York, New York, St. Cloud, Minnesota; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and Olympia, Washington. Additionally, the Lockbourne, Ohio lab will be downsized with approximately 38 layoffs.
Approximately 140 employees will be impacted by the lab closures.
According to a company spokesperson, "With a focus on simplicity, reliability, and sustainability to best serve customers and improve operations, VSP Optics is consolidating its lab network starting in July 2022. While a difficult decision, streamlining our lab network will ultimately create a more sustainable and efficient supply chain to meet customer needs."
