AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT ENTERGY PALISADES NUCLEAR PLANT

New Orleans, Louisiana-based Entergy, an integrated energy company engaged in electric power production and retail distribution, has announced that it is proceeding on schedule with the pre-planned closure and decommissioning of the Entergy Palisades Nuclear Plant located in Covert, Michigan.

According to a company statement “The Palisades plant will permanently shut down on May 31, 2022, after which the facility will be transferred to Holtec International for purposes of safe and timely decommissioning"

Holtec is currently managing the decommissioning of Oyster Creek (New Jersey), Pilgrim (Massachusetts), and Indian Point (New York) nuclear plants.

The closure will immediately impact approximately 184 Palisades plant employees commencing on June 24, 2022, with other layoffs occurring as necessary. Among the 594 current employees, only 260 will stay on to decommission the plant. The total loss of direct and indirect jobs associated with the closure is projected to be 739 positions.

Independence, Ohio-based Kichler Lighting, a developer of decorative residential and commercial lighting products, ceiling fans and LED lighting systems, has announced a restructuring to capitalize on the benefits of a remote workforce.

The company will be closing its Independence, Ohio headquarters and distribution center to relocate approximately 17-miles in Solon, Ohio in the greater Cleveland area. The restructuring and relocation will impact approximately 85 employees.

According to Irene Tasi, the President of Kichler Lighting. "Many Kichler Lighting employees have been working remotely, with significant success, since the start of the pandemic. Productivity has remained constant, and employees have indicated a preference for this new way of working. We firmly believe making a permanent change to a flexible workforce will help Kichler Lighting attract and retain top talent locally and beyond, as well as increase our company’s competitive edge.”

Kichler fixtures are manufactured in China and the finished product is packed for final installation in our Cleveland, Ohio headquarters.

Am I Next? Aclara Smart Grid Solutions completes ConEdison project with mass layoff.

Saint Louis, Missouri-based Aclara Smart Grid Solutions, a leading supplier of smart infrastructure solutions to electric, gas, and water utilities, has announced the completion of a stand-alone ConEdison project and the closure of its two project-related locations in Brooklyn, New York, and Bronx, New York.

Approximately 564 employees, mostly meter installers and support personnel, are impacted by the closures scheduled for November 24, 2021.

According to ConEdison, work in the Brox was scheduled to last between January 2019 and December 2021. Work in Brooklyn was scheduled to last between April 2018 to December 2021. ConEdison's push for smart meters will result in fewer meter readers and support personnel as the billing system is automated.
