270 employees were impacted by the closure.
In the village of Ilion, New York, 80 miles west of the state capital in Albany, residents are mourning the departure of gunmaker Remington Arms Co. after two centuries of continuous operation.
Without fanfare, the company announced last month that the manufacturing plant would be closing its doors on March 4, 2024.
"I feel like a family member has died," Ilion Mayor John Stephens told The Epoch Times. "My dad raised four kids on a paycheck from there for 37 years. He walked to work and carried his lunch every day."
Mr. Stephens said no one expected the announcement a week after Thanksgiving that the plant was set to close.
On Nov. 30, at 3:26 p.m., the company notified village officials of the decision by email. The message noted that "all separations" with the village would be completed by March 18, 2024.
Likewise, the company notified its 270 employees that they would soon be out of a job.

Remington is terminating 585 employees in the Remington Arms plant in Ilion, New York. Employees and their union are struggling to re-open the operation under a new banner per the Roundhill Group, which purchased the building and certain Remington assets.

It appears that seven bidders each purchased a portion of the company’s assets. Relocation and employee layoffs are unknown at this time.

AUGUST 12, 2020 — COMPANY FUTURE IN JEOPARDY
The company has notified the North Carolina Department of Commerce that the Madison, North Carolina plant on Remington Drive may close and result in 870 permanent layoffs commencing on or about September 29, 2020. It appears that the company’s original plans are not manifesting as planned.
JULY 29, 2020 — REMINGTON PULLS THE TRIGGER AND ENTERS BANKRUPTCY
The company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the second time in two years.
The move is attributed to poor financial performance due to anti-gun restrictions on retailers after school shootings. The company continues to fight lawsuits that attempt to hold the company responsible for the actions of individuals using the company’s products.

Madison, North Carolina-based Remington Arms Company, the iconic American manufacturer of firearms and ammunition, has announced that it is preparing for another Chapter 11 bankruptcy to unencumber the company legal obligations and debts while arranging a sale to the Navajo Nation.
In an effort to promote backdoor gun control, the anti-Second Amendment crowd has settled on a strategy of draining a gun manufacturer's finances through continual litigation based on the legal theory that the gun manufacturer should be held, at least partly responsible when their "non-defenctive" product is used in a mass shooting. Clearly absurd as we do not hold vehicle manufacturers for "non-defective" cars used in drunk driving deaths.
The Navajo Nation had previously announced that it would discontinue sales of AR-15 rifles to consumers -- a moot point since there already are a large number of options including do-it-yourself weapons.
Remington had previously filed for bankruptcy protection in March 2018 to reduce their debt load by $775 million.
Since automated processes using expert systems are now capable of machining high-tolerance precision parts, it would not be unreasonable for a move to Native lands and the use of Native American Indians as laborers.
