Nashville, Tennessee-based Asurion, a specialty insurer and provider of warranty repairs for consumer electronics and other products, has announced a

an operational restructuring that will result in a major reduction the company's headcount.

A preliminary estimate of the number of impacted workers is estimated to range as high as 750 or more employees.

According to a company spokesperson, "Workforce reductions were made globally and at all levels. Asurion is reorganizing its operation to focus on the continued growth of its mobility, home, appliance products and retail store operations. That means making thoughtful decisions on how we align resources with the right roles and skills needed to deliver future growth. A big part of what has made us successful is our constant drive to be better and improve; however, any decision to part ways with colleagues, many of whom have contributed to the company’s longstanding success, is difficult and made with great care"

Am I Next? Layoffs at American Home Shield as restructuring, cost-cutting continues.

Memphis, Tennessee-based American Home Shield, a provider of home warranty service contracts on major home systems and appliances, announced a reduction in force of 60 employees, mostly in sales, from its Memphis, Tennessee location.

Approximately 225 sales employees were laid off in Memphis, Tennessee (60), Carroll, Iowa (35), and Lagrange, Georgia (130).

According to a company statement, "Last week we shared information with associates about the redefinition of the telesales function within our business. Although this brought especially hard news to those affected, it was a necessary strategic transition for the continued growth and long-term success of the company."

It appears that as part of any separation package, the employee agreed they “will refrain from taking actions or making statements, written or oral, which criticize, disparage, or defame the business, goodwill or reputation of American Home Shield; will not become employed with competitors of AHS for a period 12 months, and that former employees will not sue the company."
