AM I NEXT? NO LOVE -- LAYOFFS AT HARRY'S FRESH FOODS

Am I Next? Harry’s Fresh Foods closing present operations and moving to Everett, Washington.

Portland, Oregon-based Harry’s Fresh Foods, a provider of refrigerated and frozen soups, meals, side-dishes, and desserts, is undergoing massive restructuring. The company has announced the layoff of 195 employees and the abandonment of their 80,000 square-foot food processing facility in Portland. The company previously closed their 200,000-square-foot food processing facility in Nashville, Tennessee with 135 employees being laid off. Operations will be transferred to a plant in Everett Washington.

The driving force behind these decisions appears to be Lynn, Massachusetts-based Kettle Cuisine that bought Harry’s Fresh Foods for an undisclosed price in April, 2019. Kettle Cuisine is a portfolio company of Dallas, Texas-based Kainos Capital, a private equity firm with a focus on the food and consumer sector and appears to be acquiring strong regional companies who have the potential for expansion in national markets. In the pre-processed food industry size, distribution, and the ability to scale are of paramount importance.

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE -- LAYOFFS AT CONTINUUM GLOBAL SOLUTIONS

Am I Next? Continuum Global Solutions layoffs in Lexington, Kentucky.

Los Angeles, California-based Continuum Global Solutions, a business process outsourcer of customer care services and call centers, announced the closure of its Lexington, Kentucky call center which will result in 117 employee layoffs. The decision is driven by the cold, hard reality of flexible staffing to meet the demands of contractual customers as well as the corporate machinations involving private investment capital firms and the financial engineering which follows.

In 2018, Skyview Capital acquired a portfolio of Conduent’s standalone customer care contracts and has decided to operate various customer call center platforms under the branding of Continuum Global Solutions. As the night follows the day, there is always some degree of restructuring and rebalancing the staffing following such acquisitions.
