AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT KENCO

Chattanooga, Tennessee-based Kenco, a third-party logistics supplier offering supply chain, fulfillment, distribution, transportation, and material handling solutions, has announced the closure of its warehouse facility in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The reduction in force will impact 110 employees with separations scheduled for March 19, 2024.

Some suggest that the decision was driven by the company's relationship with Westchester, Illinois-based Ingredion, a corn refining and food ingredient company, operating at the same address. Both companies refuse to comment.

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?

Cherry Hill, New Jersey-based National Distribution Centers, doing business as NFI, a fully-integrated provider of transportation, logistics, and warehousing services, has announced a cessation of warehouse operations at the Hanesbrands High Point, North Carolina facility.

The operational change will impact 217 jobs with layoffs commencing December 27, 2023.

NDC's client, Hanesbrands, noted that its agreement with NDC for facility OPERATIONS expires at the end of the year and is not being renewed, and Hanesbrands is not closing the facility. Hanesbrands is being pressured by an activist investor to cut costs, divest underperforming assets, and to increase profits.

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT CERTIFIED FREIGHT LOGISTICS

Santa Maria, California-based Certified Freight Logistics, a refrigerated trucking company and freight brokerage, has announced that it is ceasing operations after 95 years. The closure will affect operations in Santa Maria, California; Stockton, California; and Sumner, Washington.

The closure will impact approximately 157 employees, including 101 linehaul and local truck drivers. The target date is November 18, 2023.

Scott Cramer, president of Certified Freight Logistics, noted, “Management has been attempting to maintain profitable operations but current market conditions have made it difficult to operate without a loss. Pandemic volume demand, equipment availability issues, increased costs followed by falling freight rates, and reduced volume put us in a place to have to make this difficult decision. The company delayed any decision for some time while trying to resolve the fundamental operating issues and is no longer able to viably operate.”
