AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank

Iowa City, Iowa-based CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank, a volunteer-driven organization that provides immediate and non-judgmental support for individuals facing emotional, food, or financial crises, has announced layoffs after losing a national contract to provide suicide hotline support services.

The reduction in force will impact 100 employees who contract to provide backup chat and text support for the national 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and live out of state.

According to a spokesperson, "CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank still will answer chat and text messages to the 988 Lifeline from Iowans and serve as a backup for Iowa phone calls made to the hotline. CommUnity’s other services, including the food bank and Mobile Crisis Response Program, also will not be affected."

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
