Atlanta, Georgia-based Graphic Packaging International, one of the largest manufacturers of paperboard and paper-based packaging, has announced the closure of its 350,000-square-foot Battle Creek, Michigan recycled paperboard mill by August 2022. Production will be consolidated at the company's Kalamazoo, Michigan plant which features a $600-million paper machine capable of producing 1,400 tons of paperboard per day.

The closure will affect 200 employees.

According to a company spokesperson, "We did not make this decision lightly. We recognize plant closures are very difficult for all involved, and we are committed to assisting our affected employees over the coming months."

Decatur, Alabama-based National Packaging Company, a producer of sachets, blister packs, canisters and other packaging materials for the food packaging industry, has commenced a restructuring program that will consolidate two plants located in Decatur, Alabama, into a single facility.

The consolidation effort will impact 62 employees commencing on August 7, 2021. .
