JANUARY 4, 2023 — 11% OF THE WORKFORCE SCHEDULED FOR LAYOFFS

The company is planning another round of layoffs…

In an email to staff, Vimeo CEO Anjali Sud said the layoffs would impact 11% of the company’s workforce. “This was a very hard decision that impacts each of us deeply, It is also the right thing to do to enable Vimeo to be a more focused and successful company, operating with the necessary discipline in an uncertain economic environment.”

According to a company spokesperson, "With this reduction, we are well-positioned to both invest in our growth priorities and be sustainably profitable, with a strong balance sheet and a leading market position in enterprise video. We believe in the fundamental strength of our business and our strategy and that we have the resources and team to continue innovating to bring the power of video to every business in the world."

New York City, New York-based Vimeo, a video hosting, sharing, and services platform, has announced a round of cost-cutting on the belief that the United States may enter into a recession.

The cost-cutting will impact 6% of the company's workforce or approximately 72 employees.

Vimeo CEO Anjali Sud, posted a message on a message board, "Today I shared the difficult news with our team that Vimeo is reducing our workforce by 6%, in order to give ourselves the financial flexibility to come out of this economic downturn a stronger company."

While it might seem like we’re just another tech company confronting this new reality, there is no comfort in being one of many. Our people are what make Vimeo great, and losing any of them is a personal failure that I feel deeply. It’s a sad day having to tell colleagues you care about that their job has been impacted by events beyond their control.

We have truly incredible people leaving us. I have worked with many of them side-by-side over the years, and it’s because of their work that Vimeo has innovated and scaled. So I’d like to ask the extended Vimeo community of employees, alumni, partners, users and supporters to consider this talent pool in your next hire. If you know of an opportunity, please reach out to vimeotalent@vimeo.com so our team can connect you with anyone relevant who is leaving us.

For Vimeans, we will look to honor our colleagues’ contributions by continuing to build Vimeo to transform the way people communicate with video. Our leadership team and I are all in: on our strategy, our ability to win in an enormous and early market, and our commitment to building a world-class business. As a company we will continue to adapt, be resilient, and prove our beliefs— that sometimes means hard choices, which we will always make with care, empathy, and a long-term view.

I’m posting the full text of my internal email to employees here, and will be focused today on my colleagues and on moving Vimeo forward."

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT TREEHOUSE ONLINE CODING SCHOOL

Am I Next? Treehouse online coding school lays off almost entire staff.

Portland, Oregon-based Treehouse, an online coding education company, has announced that it plans to lay off most of its staff by the end of September. Approximately 45 out of 50 employees were impacted.

The company has exited its Oregon headquarters and the CEO, Ryan Carson, who recently moved to Essex, Connecticut, commented, “Treehouse is no longer based in Portland and that its remaining staff now works remotely. We are going to continue to serve our students and customers.” Apparently those students will be supported by Ryan and a small staff of remote workers.
