AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT WAUPACA FOUNDRY

Waupaca, Wisconsin-based Waupaca Foundry, a large independent iron foundry producing gray, ductile, and compacted graphite iron castings, has announced that the company will idle melt, molding, and core room production while continuing iron casting processing operations at its Etowah, Tennessee foundry.

The operational change will impact 540 employees commencing June 14, 2022.

Some production will transfer to other Hitachi Metals or Waupaca Foundry plants located in Marinette, Wisconsin, and Tell City, Indiana.

According to Waupaca Foundry President, COO, and CEO Mike Nikolai, “Our responsibility to our customers and our team members rests on our long-term sustainability. The production shift aligns manufacturing efficiencies with market demand. We will continue to supply the high-quality cast and machined components and service that Waupaca is known for in the market.”

Sidney, Ohio-based Ross Casting and Innovation, a manufacturer of aluminum cold-side turbocharger compressor wheel castings for the automotive markets, has announced that it will be permanently closing all operations in its casting division in Sidney.

The closure will impact 107 employees with separations scheduled for March 5, 2022.

It should be noted that the impact of electric vehicles which offer superior torque and instantaneous speed eliminate the need for turbochargers.

Sheboygan, Wisconsin-based Vollrath Company, a manufacturer of stainless steel and aluminum food preparation/service and medical small-wares and equipment, and deep draw stainless steel products for the commercial, industrial, and medical markets, has announced the closure of its Menomonee Falls facility.

The closure will impact 51 employees, including 38 permanent and 13 temporary workers, most associated with tooling and machine operations. The layoffs are scheduled for December 10, 2021.

A company statement noted, "After an in-depth analysis of all Vollrath manufacturing facilities, The Vollrath Company has made the difficult decision to close its Menomonee Falls facility. The decision was taken after a thorough evaluation, which clearly showed the need to streamline the Company’s manufacturing footprint and processes to remain competitive long term. Production in Menomonee Falls will cease this year."

The faciliti’s capabilities include progressive die and transfer metal stamping, CNC machining, burnishing, welding, and general metal fabrication processes.
