Sunnyvale, California-based Finisar Corporation, a division of Santa Clara-based Coherent, a laser technology company specializing in fiber optic communications, subsystems, and network test systems, announced an operational restructuring leading to a reduction in force at the company's Fremont, California location.

The personnel realignment will impact 108 employees involved in the manufacture of optical communication components and subsystems commencing on May 15, 2023.

According to a spokesperson, “This action is necessary due to a fall in business demand, which prompted a restructuring of operations with a focus on reducing business costs.”

Plymouth, Minnesota-based Turck, a subsidiary of the German manufacturer specializing in components used in industrial automation and controls, has announced a reduction in force.

The reduction will impact 134 employees at the company's Plymouth, Minnesota manufacturing facility. Layoffs are scheduled for January 6, 2023.

According to a spokesperson, "We informed our employees of a reduction in our workforce due to our ongoing efforts to maintain our competitive position within our markets. The workforce elimination focuses on production and support services employees, including those in engineering, as Turck’s production of connectivity components, like cables and wiring consolidation parts, will be relocated to its facilities in Mexico."

Am I Next? ESL Technologies loses two major contracts — mass layoff.

Roseville, California-based ESL Technologies. AKA Teleplan International, a logistics company specializing in the after-market service, maintenance and repair of computers and computer peripheral equipment, has announced a major reduction in force.

The reduction in force will impact 520 employees, including 308 direct company employees and 212 temporary workers from various staffing agencies. Layoffs are expected to commence on October 25, 2021.

The decision was driven by the loss of two contracts. According to a company statement, “A dramatic and unanticipated decrease in business due to the loss of two major customers resulted in a layoff of almost all of its employees located at its Roseville warehouse facility."

One large customer is believed to be San Jose, California-based networking hardware company, Cisco Systems, as ESL is listed as an authorized site for service, maintenance and logistics for products from Inc.

Note: Teleplan and Clover Wireless Rebrand as Plano, Texas-based Reconext, a provider of aftermarket lifecycle services for electronic devices, which lists the same Roseville address as ESL Technologies and Teleplan.
