AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT HAWAIIAN AIRLINES

Honolulu, Hawaii-based Hawaiian Airlines, the commercial U.S. airline acquired by Alaska Air Group and the largest operator of commercial flights to and from the island state of Hawaii, has announced a post-merger integration reduction-in-force.

The reduction will impact 252 nonunionized employees. Some of these reductions are expected to take place around September 18, 2025, the one-year anniversary of Alaska Air Group’s $1.9 billion acquisition of Hawaiian Holdings. Another key separation date will come 30 days after the Federal Aviation Administration grants a single operating certificate to the combined carriers.

According to a company spokesperson, “These employees have been aware of this milestone and have done meaningful work to integrate our airlines in the first year of our combination, helping us deliver greater value to our guests.”

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life, nor promises of a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT COMMUTEAIR

Westlake, Ohio-based CommuteAir, a regional airline primarily operating more than 1,600 weekly flights, exclusively on behalf of United Express (United Airlines), has announced it is closing its Lincoln Airport maintenance facility in Lincoln, Nebraska, “due to operational challenges and business needs."

The closure will impact approximately 100 employees commencing on July 18, 2025.

According to a company spokesperson, "We have made the difficult decision to close our maintenance base in Lincoln, Nebraska. We are incredibly grateful to the Lincoln community and the Lincoln Airport for their long-standing support and partnership. This decision was not made lightly, and we deeply appreciate everything the Lincoln team and community have contributed to CommuteAir.”

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT AIR WISCONSIN AIRLINES

Greenville, Wisconsin-based Air Wisconsin Airlines, a regional airline subcarrier, announced a major reduction in force.

The reduction will impact 513 jobs including 219 salaried and management employees and 294 temporary employees. Layoffs are expected to commence on March 31, 2025, and affect positions at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport and Appleton International Airport.

The decision was driven by a contractual matter that will end the company's partnership with American Airlines in April 2025.

According to Robert Binns, President and CEO, "This strategic shift underscores our adaptability and commitment to delivering reliable, customized air travel solutions where they are most needed. As we diversify into EAS [Essential Air Service] and grow our charter operations, we remain committed to delivering safe, efficient, and quality service to every community and customer we serve."
