JULY 14, 2025 — BOOM! BANKRUPTCY
CareerBuilder LLC and Monster Worldwide LLC announced on June 24, 2025, that the combined company is selling parts of its businesses and filing for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The closing will affect all 390 employees, effective August 4, 2025.
CEO Jeff Furman noted…
"For over 25 years, we have been a proud global leader in helping job seekers and companies connect and empower employment across the globe. However, like many others in the industry, our business has been affected by a challenging and uncertain macroeconomic environment. In light of these conditions, we ran a robust sale process and carefully evaluated all available options. We determined that initiating this court-supervised sale process is the best path toward maximizing the value of our businesses and preserving jobs."
“The Company's sale process is complemented by related restructuring actions that are in the process of being implemented across its U.S. businesses. The Company is also conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the strategic alternatives available for certain of its international businesses.”
"As we work to complete the sale process, we are making difficult but necessary decisions to reduce costs and help ensure a seamless transition of our businesses. As a company in the business of people and talent management, reducing our workforce is always a painful step to take. I greatly appreciate our people, their contributions to CareerBuilder + Monster, and the commitment and passion they have shown to our company, our clients, and our colleagues."

Chicago, Illinois-based CareerBuilder and Weston, Massachusetts-based Monster, both online employment platforms, have completed their merger and are embarking on a post-merger restructuring.
The restructuring will impact an unknown number of employees.
According to a company statement, “As CareerBuilder + Monster continues to integrate and position the combined company for success, we have taken the difficult decision to restructure the organization, which involves a reduction in the company’s overall workforce.
As is often the case when two organizations join forces, there can be redundancies of roles, requiring companies to evaluate the most efficient operating structure to support their key objectives. This is not a choice that is taken lightly, though was necessary as we continue to work towards our combined commitment to help employers fill critical roles and candidates to find meaningful work. With a refined foundation, CareerBuilder + Monster remains dedicated to powering the workforce of the future.”
Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
