AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT ASHLEY FURNITURE INDUSTRIES

Arcadia, Wisconsin-based Ashley Furniture Industries, the world's largest furniture manufacturer, has announced it is permanently closing its furniture manufacturing facility in Mesquite, Texas, as it consolidates its manufacturing footprint.

The closure will impact 266 employees, effective May 7, 2026.

According to published reports, "The decision comes amid ongoing challenges across the furniture and home furnishings sector, where demand has weakened following a post-pandemic surge. A sluggish housing market, rising costs and new tariffs on materials and upholstered furniture have further pressured the industry. Ashley's move reflects a wider trend of restructuring across the sector, with other major players also closing facilities and adjusting operations in response to declining sales and shifting market conditions."

Change is constant, and it's coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life, nor promises of a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
