AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT AVAMERE HEALTH SERVICES

Wilsonville, Oregon-based Avamere Health Services, a post-acute health care manager of nursing homes and assisted living communities, announced that it will conduct a reduction in force prior to exiting the skilled nursing business and transitioning its Oregon long-term care facilities to other providers as it focuses future investment and growth on senior housing communities and home-based services.

The business exit will impact 129 employees with phased layoffs starting September 1, 2026 and continuing until its personnel goals are reached.

According to a company spokesperson, "The layoffs are part of Avamere’s plan to exit the skilled nursing business that provides around-the-clock medical and rehabilitation care. As other companies take over the facilities, Avamere will no longer need as many headquarters employees to handle payroll, accounting, human resources, and other back-office work"

This strategic shift will allow Avamere to expand and deepen investment in its senior housing portfolio. The company’s senior housing strategy will continue to center on choice, connection, wellness, and elevated resident experience, helping older adults age on their own terms with the support they need."

Change is constant, and it's coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life, nor promises of a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
