Niagara Falls, New York-based Cascades, a producer, converter, and marketer of packaging and tissue products composed mainly of recycled fibres, has announced the permanent closure of its containerboard packaging plant.
The closure will impact all 123 employees. Production at the facility is scheduled to conclude by September 3, 2025, with the facility's closure set for October 6, 2025.
According to a company spokesperson, "This is a difficult decision, but one that is an essential part of our focus on optimizing the performance of our Packaging sector. The future growth momentum for Cascades and our customers is very promising, and we are well-positioned to capitalize on opportunities for strategic and sustainable growth. We know what we need to do to get there—simplify, optimize, and focus.
Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life, nor promises of a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
