Auburn, New York-based Cayuga Centers, a non-profit organization, which, in partnership with government agencies and other service providers, provides counseling, out-of-home care, and support services to children and families, has announced plans a mass reduction in force across the New York area, including employees at its Auburn headquarters, following the loss of more than $20 million due to financial mismanagement and misconduct by its leadership.
The reduction in force will affect 335 employees and include the closure of its East Harlem facility, which houses unaccompanied migrant children and operates with federal grant funding. The layoffs are scheduled to take effect on June 30, 2026.
Change is constant, and it's coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life, nor promises of a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
