St Louis, Missouri-based Edward Jones, a stock brokerage and financial services firm, finally admitted that their restructuring efforts impacted less than 2% of its total workforce.
The reduction in force affected 259 employees, with 552 home office associates accepting voluntary separation earlier this year.
A company spokesman noted, "Through these programs, the firm streamlined its U.S. and Canadian operations and created the foundation for a more effective home office. In total, this impacted less than 2% of Edward Jones' total full- and part-time workforce."
This should have not surprised anyone since the company announced its “Enterprise Reimagined” initiative on March 12, 2025, as a spokesman said, “As we make changes to our structure, the size of our home office will be reduced.”
Like most financial firms, they are turning to automation and artificial intelligence to spur productivity.
Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life, nor promises of a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
