Marelli was formed in 2019 after New York City, New York-based KKR, an investment management company, closed its acquisition of Magneti Marelli from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and is now engaging in financial engineering. The company is said to be considering the sale of its suspension systems business as they concentrate on profitable operations with future promise.

Southfield, Michigan-based Marelli North America, a manufacturer of automotive components including powertrain components, suspension systems. climate-control, engine-cooling, and exhaust systems have announced that the company will be closing its Sanford, North Carolina facility in the second half of 2021, and laying off 329 employees as operations are off-shored to Saltillo, Mexico.

According to a company spokesperson, "The automotive industry is facing a number of prolonged challenges. Vehicle volumes are trending downward, exacerbated by Covid-19, while the introduction of new technology from non-traditional suppliers is forcing Tier 1s to review their operations to increase competitiveness."

The overal economic downturn and travel restrictions have severely impacted vehicle production. sales, and repairs. Moreover, the introduction of electric vehicles and hybrids is impacting traditional motor vehicles.

Am I Next? DR1V to relocate warehouse.

Lake Forest, Illinois-based DRiV Incorporated, a supplier of OEM and aftermarket automotive products and services, has announced the closing of its York, Pennsylvania warehouse and relocating the company's distribution operations to its Smyrna, Tennessee distribution center. The relocation will result in 233 layoffs which are scheduled to occur between January 2021 and the end of February 2021. The warehouse is scheduled to close by February 28, 2021.

According to a company statement, “The company announced in November the decision to close its York, Pennsylvania, Distribution Center This decision is due to the current business environment in combination with the need to move to a more centralized business distribution model. The closure is effective February 28, 2021. It is important to emphasize that the decision was based on economic realities and in no way, reflects the performance of the York, Pennsylvania Distribution Center. The employees at this location have worked diligently to successfully satisfy our aftermarket customers.”

MARCH 31, 2024 — CLOSURE OF WINONA PLANT

The company has announced the closure of its Winona, Minnesota, manufacturing facility in the second half of 2024. The facility manufactures automotive keyless entry system components and assemblies.

The closure will impact 123 workers.

According to plant manager Aaron MacLennan, “It is anticipated that approximately 123 hourly and salaried employees will be affected by the ‘mass layoff’ which will occur in phases with layoffs expected to begin Q3/Q4. This ‘mass layoff’ and plant closure is considered permanent.”

Farmington, Michigan-based BCS Automotive Interface Solutions, an automotive supplier specializing in controls systems for vehicle interiors, including access systems such as electronic and mechanical steering column locks, passive entry systems, and remote keyless entry systems, has announced 135 employee layoffs and the permanent closure of its 62,500 square-foot auto parts plant in Aurelius, New York on February 28, 2021.

The decision was a business matter involving the consolidation of manufacturing and a slowdown in the global automotive industry.

Employees were warned about the plant's closure in March 2020 after a 2019 company facilities study that examined the potential transfer of product manufacturing and closure of one or more of the company's manufacturing sites. The company's workload will be distributed to other company facilities.
