The company has announced that 111 employees at its Rio Robles office complex in San Jose, California will lose their jobs between January 12, 2024, and February 2, 2024.

MAY 1, 2022 — 61 LAYOFFS IN MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA

The company has announced that it will be consolidating its Silicon Valley operations in San Jose, California. This includes plans to lay off 61 employees in Milpitas toward the end of June, sellings its Milpitas chipmaking facility, and subleasing its space in two Santa Clara, California office locations.

According to a company spokesperson, "Analog Devices is co-locating employees from various California sites to our larger, vibrant campus in San Jose which will support the expansion of future needs. We evaluate the current needs of our business and made the difficult decision to close positions for a small number of employees."

JANUARY 20, 2021 — MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA FACILITY TO BE CLOSED, 255 LAYOFFS

The company announced that it is shuttering its Milpitas, California facility and laying off 255 employees. The facility was acquired in 2016 as part of the $14.8 billion Linear Technology acquisition. The effective date is February 19, 2021.

It is unknown at this time whether this is preparation for the closure of the Maxim acquisition in Summer 2021.

According to a company spokesperson, “Changing business needs require us to close this facility permanently.”

Norwood, Massachusetts-based Analog Devices, a major semiconductor manufacturer, appears to be exploring the purchase of San Jose, California-based Maxim Integrated, an integrated chip designer and manufacturer for approximately $21 billion.

Most semiconductor companies are seeking to scale their operations and widen their product lines to prepare for a growing market for IoT (Internet of Things) devices.

At-risk are employees who are associated with programs that will be discontinued as well as those whose positions are associated with duplicative departments and functions that are targeted for synergistic cost savings that help justify the sales price and assist in paying for the purchase.

MARCH 3, 2025 — 2,400 EMPLOYEES TARGETED

The company has announced a comprehensive restructuring plan that will result in the reduction of its global workforce by approximately 2,400 employees.

On February 24, 2025, ON Semiconductor Corporation (the “Company” and, together with its subsidiaries, “onsemi”) initiated a company-wide restructuring plan that will impact all business groups including the worldwide manufacturing organization. This Restructuring Plan, as approved by management, consists of cost reduction initiatives designed to align onsemi’s spending with current business trends while enabling the Company to continue to make progress towards its long-term financial operating model.

Under the Restructuring Plan, onsemi intends to reduce its global workforce by approximately 2,400 employees. onsemi expects this reduction in force to be completed during 2025, subject to applicable local law and regulations. The Company estimates that it will incur between $50 million and $60 million in employment-related charges for, among other things, one-time cash payments for severance, benefits expenses, payroll taxes and other ancillary charges. onsemi expects that the majority of these charges will be recorded during calendar year 2025. The Company estimates that these reductions, once completed, will generate savings of $105 million to $115 million on an annualized basis.

The company has announced that it plans to layoff an additional 740 employees across the enterprise in the first half of 2021.

Phoenix, Arizona-based ON Semiconductor, a manufacturer and supplier of semiconductor chips for commercial, industrial, and military applications, has announced that it was undertaking a restructuring effort which includes laying off 475 employees as part of a cost-cutting program.

"As previously disclosed on March 6, 2020, ON Semiconductor Corporation has been in the process of undertaking certain restructuring measures to realign its investments. The Company believes that these restructuring measures should enable it to optimize its cost structure and accelerate its progress towards its target financial model. These targeted cost reductions are structural in nature and are not expected to impact the Company’s ability to respond to a significant recovery in demand.

On April 3, 2020, as part of these ongoing efforts to reduce costs, the Company determined to implement certain employee terminations during the first half of 2020. The Employment Separations will impact approximately 475 of the Company’s employees who are located in the Company’s corporate headquarters and in other locations where the Company has operations. The company announced that it is laying off 320 employees, or 4% of its workforce, in response to an industry slowdown.

A company spokesperson noted, “We are streamlining our organization to ensure that our workforce is positioned to take advantage of our most promising opportunities, both now and when we emerge from the current industry downcycle,”

Hamilton, Bermuda-based Marvell Technology Group, a global semiconductor company, has announced that it will be cutting 124 positions, including 94 directors, engineers, and staff professionals, mostly at the company’s headquarters in Santa Clara, California.

t appears that the layoffs include 26 employees in IPBU (IP Business Unit), 12 employees in the SPBU (Server Processor Business Unit),  54 employees in Storage, and 29 in Networking.

According to a company spokesperson, “Marvell makes organizational changes to our global workforce on an ongoing basis. These updates focus on rebalancing our organization to match the current business outlook for our core markets and future success.”

This follows a layoff of 66 employees in June 2019 which included 20 in Santa Clara. I
