Am I Next? ESL Technologies loses two major contracts — mass layoff.

Roseville, California-based ESL Technologies. AKA Teleplan International, a logistics company specializing in the after-market service, maintenance and repair of computers and computer peripheral equipment, has announced a major reduction in force.

The reduction in force will impact 520 employees, including 308 direct company employees and 212 temporary workers from various staffing agencies. Layoffs are expected to commence on October 25, 2021.

The decision was driven by the loss of two contracts. According to a company statement, “A dramatic and unanticipated decrease in business due to the loss of two major customers resulted in a layoff of almost all of its employees located at its Roseville warehouse facility."

One large customer is believed to be San Jose, California-based networking hardware company, Cisco Systems, as ESL is listed as an authorized site for service, maintenance and logistics for products from Inc.

Note: Teleplan and Clover Wireless Rebrand as Plano, Texas-based Reconext, a provider of aftermarket lifecycle services for electronic devices, which lists the same Roseville address as ESL Technologies and Teleplan.

Am I Next? Hitachi Cable America closing Florida plant — outsourcing to Mexico.

Purchase, New York-based Hitachi Cable America, a designer and manufacturer of power, communication. and automotive cables, and assemblies, has announced a restructuring that will result in the closure of its Pensacola, Florida manufacturing facility by March 31, 2022. The Hitachi Pensacola facility manufactures components and cables for ABS braking systems and hybrid vehicles.

Layoffs, commencing immediately will be phased and will impact 202 employees, including 106 assemplers.

According to a statement filed with the State of Florida, "Planned in the second half of 2021 is the movement of all customer components manufacturing

from their current location in Pensacola, Florida to our facility located in Queretaro, Mexico. We are taking steps to reduce our costs of manufacturing, the realignment of this production will enable us to better serve our customers and remain competitive in the marketplace."

Am I Next? TT Electronics to close Corpus Christie plant.

Woking, England-based TT Electronics, a manufacturer of electronic components, including sensors, power modules, resistors, magnetics, semiconductors, connectors and optoelectronics, and provider of contract manufacturing services, has announced that it is closing its Corpus Christi manufacturing facility.

Some of the work will be transfered to the company's newly-expanded 68,000-square-foot facility in Plano, Texas. A smaller portion of the manufacturing operations will be sent abroad to the company's factory in Bedlington, England.

The closure will impact 73 employees commencing on begin on August 16, 2021, and be completed by the end of August 2021.

The decision is being driven by a 2020 operational review which led to plans to reduce the company's global workforce, consolidate operations, and to shutter at least three facilities globally, including one in Christ Church, Barbados, and one in Lutterworth, England.
