The company has announced 192 layoffs in San Mateo, California, and another 10 in San Francisco, California. The layoffs will take effect on January 21, 2025.

According to a company spokesperson, “We expect to grow the number of employees at Visa this year, next year, and for the foreseeable future. However, we continuously evolve our operating model to better serve clients and accelerate innovation and growth, which can lead to the elimination of some roles.”

San Francisco, California-based Visa, a multinational electronic payment card services provider, is restructuring its international business and reducing its workforce.

The reduction in force will impact 1,400 employees and contractors, with the majority of positions involving technology positions, while the rest will focus on merchant sales and global digital partnerships roles. Layoffs are scheduled to occur before the end of 2024.

According to a spokesperson, The company continually evolves to serve clients and support growth, which can lead to eliminating some roles.”

Portland, Maine-based WEX, a provider of payment processing and information management services to commercial and government vehicle fleets, has announce a cost-containment initiative.

The initiative will impact 375 technology-related employees, or 5.2% of its workforce. This follows multiple rounds of layoffs in the last four years.

A company spokesperson noted, “As the technology environment continues to change rapidly, it is imperative that WEX continues to evolve its business to support innovation and maintain its position as an industry leader. These changes, while difficult, will help us focus our resources, promote agility and efficiency, and further position WEX for long-term success."

New York, New York-based NYSE Group, which owns the New York Stock Exchange, has announced a post-acquisition cost reduction initiative related to the acquisition of Archipelago Holdings, an electronic trading platform. The company is transitioning from on-floor trading specialists to electronic trading.

The personnel realignment targets 520 employees which includes 400 full-time employees and 120 consultants.
