AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT OCHSNER HEALTH SYSTEM

New Orleans, Louisiana-based Ochsner Health System, a non-profit, academic, multi-specialty healthcare delivery system operating 42 hospitals and over 200 urgent health centers located throughout Southeast Louisiana, has announced a major reduction in force.

Approximately 2% of the workforce will be impacted, approximately 770 employees.

According to a company spokesperson, "The cuts will primarily be limited to employees in management, administrative jobs, and clerical positions which will be spread evenly across the institution’s facilities.

"This is not a decision our executive leadership team takes lightly or one we ever wanted to make. It is the hardest change we have ever had to make at Ochsner, but one we must to ensure we continue to be a strong organization."

“We want everyone to know that when we are finished with this round, we are done. This is it, Folks do not have to come to work every day worried about what comes next.”

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT ENVISION HEALTHCARE

Nashville, Tennessee-based Envision Healthcare, a multi-specialty medical staffing firm whose parent company is reportedly planning to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, is announcing a reduction in force.

The reduction in force will impact 162 administrative workers, mostly clinical support jobs such as claim processes and verifiers, coders, reimbursement specialists, clerks, and accounts receivable handlers in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. Separations will begin on July 14, 2023, with an additional 125 positions eliminated on September 15, 2023.

According to the Wall Street Journal, "the potential filing is a result of losses tied to increasing labor costs, a contract dispute with UnitedHealthcare and 'surprise billing' legislation that blocks providers from going after patients to collect on bills insurers refuse to cover."

An Envision spokesperson said the company “appreciates the teammates for their many contributions supporting Envision clinicians in providing high-quality patient care and remains focused on continuing to provide such care to the patients we serve."

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT CEDARS SINAI

Los Angeles, California-based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, one of the largest nonprofit academic medical centers in the United States, has announced a cost-reduction initiative.

The reduction in force will impact 131 nonpatient care employees, including pharmacy technicians, administrative support staff, patient service representatives, and management employees. Cedars-Sinai has also cut approximately two dozen employees at other Cedars-Sinai-related entities.

According to a hospital spokesperson, “Despite our high volumes of inpatient and ambulatory care, the gap between our revenue and expenses is growing — the result of underpayments from government insurance programs and the rising costs of caring for patients, among other factors. We appreciate that these changes are difficult and painful, and we have taken every step possible to avoid them."
