AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT JEFFERSON HEALTH (10/18/25)

OCTOBER 18, 2025 — HUNDREDS TARGETED

Jefferson Health is planning a 1% reduction in force, approximately 600 to 700 employees.

CEO Joseph Cacchione noted, “Like many organizations in health care and higher education, we are facing significant financial headwinds. To sustain our mission and continue serving our communities, we must take thoughtful, strategic actions to align our operations for the future. While these decisions are never easy, they are necessary to ensure Jefferson remains strong and able to invest in expanding access to care, advancing innovation, and supporting those who rely on us most.”

JANUARY 19, 2025 -- 171 EMPLOYEES

The company is laying off 171 employees in March 2025 and outsourcing back-office positions to a third party. The affected areas include billing, insurance preauthorization, and clinical documentation. Many employees are remote workers.

According to a spokesperson, “Following a thorough review, we are transitioning a limited number of non-patient facing administrative functions to an external partner to enhance efficiency. We are providing resources to support impacted colleagues who do not secure new roles within the organization.”

AUGUST 10, 2023 -- Original post…

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based Jefferson Health, a multi-state non-profit health system, has announced a major reduction in force.

The personnel action will impact approximately 400 employees or 1% of the workforce, mostly among corporate and administrative employees.

According to Jefferson's CEO, Joseph G. Cacchione, "This decision was not made lightly, and Jefferson is not alone in needing to make this challenging choice. As has been widely reported, there are incredible financial pressures on healthcare and higher education organizations across the country. There are decreased patient volumes at the same time as double-digit increases in costs, and the economic models that support many payer-provider relationships do not yet reflect all the ways the environment is changing.

"Our ability to be sustainable now and in the future is critical to serving all of our communities, including those with the most need but less access to high-quality care. We are focused on continuing efforts to optimize and integrate our operations in ways that allow us to stay true to our focus on quality patient care, education, research, safety, and health equity."

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT ALINA HEALTH

Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Allina Health, a not-for-profit healthcare system that owns or operates 12 hospitals and more than 90 clinics throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin, has announced a cost-cutting initiative and a reduction in force.

The personnel realignment will impact 350 employees companywide.

According to CEO Lisa Shannon, “I know that for many of you, there is a disconnect on how people are feeling against this information. It's not what you experience every day. We are extremely busy. So how can we be losing money?” Simply put, it comes down to our expenses which continue to outpace our revenues. We're experiencing higher costs across the board for supplies and labor, and we continue to get paid less for the care that we provide."

"Allina Health has tremendous gratitude for all of our team members, including those leaving our organization. Employees who are part of this labor reduction will be offered severance, health benefits, and outplacement resources.”

“I know this decision is difficult for all of us, especially those that are impacted. While redactions will be occurring systemwide, we will continue to prioritize our caregiving roles, which are essential to our ability to serve the community.”
