Am I Next? Contract loss impacts CompleteRx.

Houston, Texas-based CompleteRX, a pharmacy management company, has announced that it will be laying off 95 employees, most of whom worked in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Other employees work in Holyoke, Westfield, Fall River, Wrentham, Canton and Worcester.

The layoff was driven by the July 1, 2021, expiration of a 2016 Massachusetts Office for Pharmacy Services' contract to provide pharmacy services for 49 state-run facilities, including those services provided at the departments of mental health, developmental services, public health, and the Department of Corrections.

Pharmacy operations will be provided by Cardinal Health.

Rockville, Maryland, BioReliance Corporation, a company specializing in viral vector manufacturing and biosafety testing, has announced that it is continuing to reallocate resources and will be permanently laying off 99 employees in its Rockville, Maryland facility commencing July 2, 2021.

According to a spokesperson, the layoffs are due to "changing business needs" and the facility will remain open. Further noting that they “apply to a small testing group within our overall operations in Rockville."

Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Ohana Biosciences, a biotechnology company with an emphasis on sperm-based fertility therapeutics and procedures, has announced that the start-up, funded by venture capital, has run out of funding and will be ceasing operations. The decision is said to affect all Ohana personnel, now estimated between 23 and 56 employees.

A statement by the company's CEO, Dr. Amber Salzman noted "It is an extremely disappointing day given the hard work and dedication of our team and the goals we set out to help the millions of people facing reproductive health challenges," Salzman wrote. "We are thankful to the patients, clinicians, our team, and many other people who have helped us on this journey."
