Burlington, Massachusetts Flexion Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company specializing in the development of treatments for musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis, has announced a 60% reduction in force following their acquisition by Tampa, Florida-based Pacira BioSciences.

The reduction in headcount will impact 153 employees, including 43 employees located in Massachusetts and 110 remote workers, scheduled for January 18, 2022.

Waltham, Massachusetts-based, Deciphera Pharmaceuticals, "a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company developing innovative medicines to improve the lives of people with cancer, today announced a corporate restructuring intended to prioritize clinical development of select programs, streamline commercial operations, maintain a focus on discovery research and extend the Company’s cash runway."

The restructuring will impact 140 employees across the enterprise which is approximately 35% of the company's workforce.

According to a company statement from Steve Hoerter, President and Chief Executive Officer of Deciphera, "The decision to realign our resources and restructure our organization was difficult, but one which will allow us to focus on the critical programs that will drive our future growth. I would like to personally express my appreciation to our colleagues who are impacted by this decision. DECEMBER 17. 2025 — 300 EMPLOYEES TARGETED

The company has announced a restructuring plan that will eliminate 300 positions companywide and shift another 300 employees to other areas or locations.

The company adds that it “will continue to optimize its manufacturing footprint to power its pipeline, adjust to future volume expectations and continue the organization’s productivity journey, including reducing workforce in higher-cost locations.”

Greenfield, Indiana-based Elanco Animal Health, a pharmaceutical company specializing in the manufacture of medicines and vaccinations for pets and livestock, has announced a post-merger consolidation and cost-cutting plan to reduce its world headcount by 380 employees, including a 20% reduction of senior managers. Approximately 100 employees in Greenfield will be impacted.

The decision was driven by the company's post-merger acquisition of Bayer Animal Health which closed in August 2020. Previous announcements indicated that 900 employees in 40 countries would be impacted as its commercial operations for Elanco International and Elanco Europe were consolidated.

According to a company spokesperson, “While actions that impact our team are always difficult, it is imperative that we simplify our organization and focus on delivering customer value to meet our commitments to improve our profitability, even in the midst of increasing inflationary and supply chain costs.”
