AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT KIESSLING TRANSIT

Norfolk, Massachusetts-based Kiessling Transit, a contract-driven transportation company that services regional transit authorities, state agencies, colleges, and city and town governments, has announced a mass layoff in its Framingham, Massachusetts operation.

It appears that the decision is driven by the expiration of the company's MetroWest Regional Transit Authority contract to provide fixed-route ADA paratransit service and Dial-a-Ride public transportation, which expires on June 30, 2025.

MetroWest Regional Transit Authority is seeking another three-year contract, from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028, with extensions for up to two (2) additional one-year (1) terms. Vehicles will be provided, insured, and maintained by MWRTA.

At this time, no bid winner has been announced, and the layoffs may be a preemptory WARN notice filing.

The layoff will impact 124 Framingham, Massachusetts, employees, with separations scheduled for June 30, 2025.

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT DAVIS EXPRESS

Starke, Florida-based Davis Express, a regional trucking company specializing in refrigerated transport, announced that it is ceasing operations.

A total of 146 employees will be laid off on June 15, 2025, and the remaining 17 employees are expected to be laid off around August 31, 2025. notice. These totals are broken down into 1

According to Jimmy Davis, “The past few years have been very challenging for refrigerated trucking due to rising costs and stagnating or falling rates."

"We have been unprofitable since early 2023 and do not see any signs of improvement in 2025. In addition, plaintiffs’ attorneys have increasingly targeted the trucking industry. Every trip a driver takes is Russian Roulette for everything I worked for my entire life."

"After 50 years in the trucking industry, I am ready to retire and do not wish to wait any longer for things to improve or to try to find a buyer for the company. Although the company has been unprofitable lately, it is not bankrupt and does not have any cash flow problems. There is enough money to pay out all employees, vendors, and creditors in a timely manner."

"As we enter the final chapter of Davis Express, I want to thank everyone who has made the company successful over the years."

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT NOVA BUS

Saint-Eustache, Quebec-based Nova Bus, a transit bus manufacturer, has announced the company is exiting bus production in the US market and closing its Plattsburgh, New York manufacturing and delivery facility by 2025.

The phased closure will impact 191 employees and be complete by March 14, 2025.

According to company statements, “The strategic decision to end bus production in the U.S. by 2025 was made after evaluating its profitability, which was experiencing continued financial losses over the years. We will do the utmost to support our employees, many of whom have been employed for numerous years. We will work together with our sister Volvo companies, surrounding businesses, local authorities, and communities to support our people in finding new employment opportunities”
