AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT ACTBLUE

Cambridge, Massachusetts-based ActBlue, a technology platform to provide fundraising and contact management services to political (democrat) and charitable organizations, has announced a restructuring and cost control initiative. The immediate result is a 17% reduction in its workforce following the execution of a new union contract.

Approximately 54 employees were laid off, including 32 in the union's bargaining unit.

According to a union spokesperson, “Leadership’s actions jeopardize our ability to fully serve our entities, our donors, and the broader Democratic movement, especially ahead of a critical election cycle. We call upon Leadership to freeze further layoffs until all other cost-saving options are exhausted, and for ActBlue Leadership to live up to their progressive ideals.”

ActBlue President and CEO Regina Wallace Jones responded, “We need to ensure we are serving our users as sustainably and effectively as possible during the 2024 cycle and beyond. The center of our work is providing a technology platform for campaigns, organizations, and donors to drive change, and we are looking to focus our efforts on innovating and expanding our product while also controlling our costs.”

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT LUCID GROUP (05/25/24)

MAY 25, 2024 — 400 EMPLOYEES TARGETED IN RESTRUCTURING

On May 24, 2024, Lucid Group announced a restructuring plan intended to optimize the Company’s operating expenses in response to evolving business needs and productivity improvements through a reduction of the Company’s current employee workforce by approximately 400 employees, or approximately 6%. The Company expects to substantially complete the Plan by the end of the third quarter of 2024, subject to local law and consultation requirements.

According to CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson

Team,

Today, we are announcing a reduction to our US employee and contract workforce, impacting employees at all levels, including leadership and mid-level management. The reduction in force will not impact our hourly manufacturing and logistics workforce.

Letting go of our talented team members is difficult and a decision we did not take lightly. We are thankful to everyone who has helped Lucid at every step of our journey. Accordingly, we have extended severance and health benefits to the impacted employees, and we are offering them outplacement services. Please provide empathy and support to colleagues beginning their search for new employment.

I’m confident Lucid will deliver the world’s best SUV and dramatically expand our total addressable market, but we aren’t generating revenue from the program yet. As always we must remain vigilant about costs. We are optimizing our resources in a way we believe will best position the company for future success and growth opportunities as we focus on achieving our ambitious goals.

We appreciate that we are asking more of everyone at Lucid today. As such, we want all employees, from longstanding team members to new colleagues who will join us in the next phase of Lucid’s evolution, to focus relentlessly on the three factors that will determine our success as a business:

Sell Lucid Air sedans: Despite slowing sales in the broader EV segment, we achieved an all-time delivery record last quarter and have seen that momentum continue into Q2. We must continue accelerating new customer acquisition and expanding awareness for our flagship vehicle.

Stay on track for the Gravity SUV program to start production at the end of 2024 and our midsize program in late 2026. I expect that our SUV and our midsized vehicles will be the best in their segments, and the journey to production will be thrilling.

Be responsible with our resources: While our funding will get us to the next phase of our business, we must continue to exercise strong cost discipline, a message reiterated in our recent earnings call.

I want to stress that the future is bright at Lucid. We are making the world’s most advanced electric vehicles. Our superior technology, design, and performance continue to be embraced by consumers and awarded by industry critics. I can’t think of any other company that has gotten this far this fast, and we continue to innovate for the future.

Today’s decision is about positioning us for future growth. I’m proud of the work this team is accomplishing and am confident that we will only continue to grow stronger. I will address this topic more during a town hall meeting later this morning.

Regards,

Peter

Newark, California-based Lucid Group, an electric luxury vehicle manufacturer, has announced a restructuring and its intention to lay off 18% of its workforce.

The reduction in force will impact 1,300 employees and will be completed by the end of the second quarter.

According to CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson,

CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson ...

Earlier today, I announced the difficult decision to reduce our workforce at Lucid. Given evolving business needs and productivity improvements, we are reducing the size of our organization by approximately 18%, which will affect Lucid employees and contractors. This action is aligned with the cost discipline announcement we made in late February when we reported earnings. We are also taking continued steps to manage our costs by reviewing all non-critical spending at this time.

We have been reviewing and implementing several other ways to optimize our cost structure, but unfortunately, these measures alone won’t achieve our objectives. Consequently, we’ve made the painful but necessary decision to let some of our talented team members go. We want to ensure that employees whose roles have been impacted receive our full support. We are offering impacted employees a severance package that includes access to career resources, Lucid-paid healthcare coverage continuation, and acceleration of equity to help as much as possible with the transition.

What to Expect

Over the next three days, our goal is to communicate with all employees at Lucid so you know what this plan means for you and your teams.

Our U.S. workforce will see reductions in nearly every organization and level, including executives. As I mentioned, all employees at the company will be advised of their status this week, so please watch for communications. We will send a message to Lucid employees when notifications have been completed. Additionally, VPs of each group, along with people managers, will be scheduling time to discuss what this means for your team over the next couple of days.

I know this is not easy as these actions create uncertainty. This week and the weeks ahead will be about processing change as we show empathy for colleagues who are departing and as we come together on our path forward. These decisions are designed to position us to be more resilient and agile, thereby strengthening the company for the long term.

We would not have the best EV on the market without the collective efforts of all of our teams, which is a direct result of your tremendous perseverance, resourcefulness, and teamwork. I want to express my deep personal gratitude to everyone who has contributed up to this point and to the teams that will help advance our mission going forward.

Our mission remains unchanged. We are committed to a more innovative and environmentally sustainable future – designing, building, and delivering the best EVs on the market as we expand globally and develop more exceptional vehicles such as the Gravity SUV, which we plan to launch in 2024. I am confident that we have the most advanced technology, we have the right operational infrastructure and know-how to deliver, and we have a track record of tenacity that will make us stronger.

My focus now, along with our entire leadership team and HR, is to provide all employees with the respect and support they deserve.

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT INDEED (07/11/25)

JULY 11, 2025 — 1,300 EMPLOYEES TARGETED AS INDEED AND GLASSDOOR CONSOLIDATE

Indeed and Glassdoor, both owned by the Japanese group Recruit Holdings, are consolidating operations and laying off 1,300 employees as the companies transition to artificial intelligence-driven operations.

Hisayuki "Deko" Idekoba noted, "Delivering on this ambition requires us to move faster, try new things, and fix what's broken. To achieve our company priorities, it requires creating a structure and culture to support them. We will integrate Glassdoor operations into Indeed, working toward a simpler hiring experience for job seekers and employers.

MAY 12, 2024 — 8% OR 1,000+ EMPLOYEES TARGETED

A Message from our CEO, Chris Hyams…

I am sad to share the news that we have made the difficult decision to reduce our headcount through a layoff. Unlike last year, where our reduction was driven by cost savings, we are taking this action because we need to simplify our organization to make it easier and faster for us to make decisions, and help us to more effectively grow revenue and hires.

We anticipate that we will be letting approximately 1,000 people go, representing ~8% of the company. While the reductions touch many groups and regions, they are not across the board like last year; rather they are mostly concentrated in the US, and are more focused on R&D and some Go-to-Market teams. We worked closely with the HR, Legal, and DEIB+ teams to ensure objectivity and equity in the decision-making process. The final selections have had no measurably disproportionate impact on women and under-represented genders or the under-represented minority population in the

I am responsible for how we got here, and the entire SLT is responsible for making the difficult decisions necessary to help set us up for the future. We know these decisions will have a significant impact on people’s lives. I’d like to share some context for why I believe it’s necessary.

Last year we were facing a global slowdown in hiring, which led to multiple consecutive quarters of revenue loss. We reduced our headcount, instituted multiple cost-saving measures, and instilled investment discipline across the company. These measures worked, and we are now operating with stable profitability.

However, while the global economy has improved in several areas over the past year, we are not yet set up for sustainable growth. Despite our efforts so far, our organization is still too complex, we still have significant duplication of effort and too many organizational layers that slow down decision-making. We have been working to simplify every aspect of our business, but without meaningful change, we can’t get where we need to go.

At a high level, we are significantly restructuring the R&D team to align with our marketplace strategy, and we are reducing layers of management. We are also restructuring and aligning some Go-to-Market teams, and will be eliminating most of the Sales and CS roles in Foster City, California. Across the business we are making additional changes to simplify decision-making and create clarity.

For those who are staying, I know you will need time to absorb this news. Tomorrow we will have a global town hall where I will share more about the overall org structure. This will be followed by org-specific town halls led by SLT, with opportunities to get answers to your questions. On Wednesday, we will share the updated organization chart for everyone to see.

As difficult as these changes are, our new structure will help us to simplify and work more effectively as one team, reignite growth in revenue, and drive toward our 2030 goal to help 100 million people get jobs.

But today, our focus will be on those who are leaving.

Our mission is vital. Helping people get jobs is a profound privilege. Our work is driven by the deep understanding of just how important a job is in a person’s life. We all know what it means to lose that. For those of you who are leaving, this is incredibly hard. We are committed to bringing as much support to you as possible in the days and weeks ahead. You helped millions of people get jobs, and helped Indeed to be a better place. Thank you.

Chris

APRIL 7, 2023 — Original blog post…

Stamford, Connecticut-based Indeed, a worldwide employment website for job listings, has announced a major 15% reduction in force.

The personnel realignment will impact 2,200 employees.

CEO Chris Hyams noted,

"I am heartbroken to share that I have made the difficult decision to reduce our headcount through layoffs. This is a decision I truly hoped I’d never have to make.

Leading a company whose mission is to help people get jobs, every single day I think about how important a job is in a person’s life. Losing a job is extraordinarily hard, financially and emotionally. For those who will be leaving, we are working to bring as much support as possible to each of you.

We anticipate we will be letting approximately 2,200 people go. This is roughly 15% of our team. The cuts come from nearly every team, function, level and region at Indeed and Indeed Flex. The specific decisions on who and where to cut were extremely difficult, but they were made with great care.

We focused on preparing the organization for the future, aligning with our strategy and priorities, and reducing duplication of effort and inefficiency. We worked closely with the HR, Legal, and DEIB+ teams to ensure objectivity and equity in these decisions. The final selections have had no measurably disproportionate impact on women and under-represented genders or the under-represented minority population in the US."

As we shared at the last Quarterly Update meeting, it is clear the job market will continue to cool after the recent post-COVID boom. It is becoming increasingly likely that HR Tech revenue will decline in FY2023 and potentially again in FY2024. Last quarter, US total job openings were down 3.5% year over year, while sponsored job volumes were down 33%. In the US, we are expecting job openings will likely decrease to pre-pandemic levels of about 7.5 million, or even lower over the next two to three years.

People who work here love Indeed. You pour your hearts and souls into your work. Some of you have been here for more than a decade. It is heartbreaking to see so many incredible people go, through no fault of your own. For those who are leaving, I want to thank each and every one of you for your contributions. You made Indeed a great place to work. You helped millions of people change their lives. We are better because of you.

For those who are staying, I know this will deeply affect all of you. We are incredibly fortunate to have an organization of people who care for each other and will support each other in the days and weeks ahead.

We will need time to process this. But we have so much to do to fulfill our mission of helping people get jobs. We will continue to accelerate our strategy of getting closer to the hire, we will deliver more value to employers through pay for performance, and we will make it even simpler and faster for everyone to get hired. While we’re facing challenging times ahead, I am confident that we will manage through it, and we will come out stronger on the other side.
