AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT ZF ACTIVE SAFETY

Northville, Michigan-based ZF Active Safety, a supplier of advanced mobility products and systems for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and industrial technology, has announced the closure of its Flowery Branch, Georgia facility on July 22, 2024, and the closure of its Findlay, Ohio facility in the second quarter of 2025.

The closure of the Georgia will impact 365 employees and the closure of the Ohio facility will impact 215 ZF employees and approximately 35 external agency workers.

According to a company statement regarding the Ohio plant, "The reason for the closure is that the serial production contracts for the Brake Controls product have ended and the carry-on business has been sourced to another supplier."

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT STERIS

Mentor, Ohio-based Steris, a medical equipment company specializing in sterilization and surgical products, has announced a restructuring and personnel realignment. "The restructuring includes product line re-evaluations, facility consolidations, a strategy shift in the company’s healthcare surgical business in Europe, and an impairment review for an X-ray accelerator that was internally developed."

The reduction in force will impact approximately 300 employees with the restructuring to be mostly complete by early next 2025.

In an SEC filing, "the restructuring is meant to enhance profitability and improve efficiency."

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT RUIZ FOODS

Frisco, Texas-based Ruiz Foods, a maker of frozen Mexican foods, has announced the closure of its Tulare, California plant and to distribute its workload to the company's five other facilities located in California, Texas, and South Carolina.

The shutdown will impact 215 employees, with layoffs occurring between August 30, 2024, and September 13, 2024.

According to a company statement, "The Tulare plant has outlived its usefulness. The plant opened in 2004 to provide short-term production for the company’s flagship plant in Dinuba, California. But, after 20 years, the company determined the frozen food plant was too small and would require substantial capital investment to meet our manufacturing needs or remain a viable part of the Ruiz Foods network. While this is the right decision for our business, we recognize the impact on our valued Tulare team members and will be working to provide support and options during this transition including, for some, an option to transfer to our Dinuba plant."
