Herndon, Virginia-based Triple Canopy, a contract private security company offering armed security, mission support, and risk management services to corporate and government clients, has announced a reduction in force in its Indiana operations.

The reduction in force will commence on September 30, 2024, and impact 123 employees statewide.

The layoffs are attributable to an expiring contract with the Department of Homeland Security to provide federal protective services for government facilities located in the State of Indiana. Positions include 113 armed protective security officers, four lieutenants and two captains, as well as a training manager, training instructor, contract manager and an administrative assistant.

Watertown, Massachusetts-based Tome Biosciences, a biotechnology startup specializing in genetic medicine startup, is closing its Watertown facility and eliminating all employees while exploring its “strategic options,” corporate-speak for selling its intellectual property and other assets.

The layoff will impact 131 employees, including the Chief Scientific Officer, commencing on November 1, 2024.

According to CEO Rahul Kakkar. “Despite our clear scientific progress, investor sentiment has shifted dramatically across the gene editing space, particularly for preclinical companies.”

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-based Stuffed Puffs, a confectioner that specializes in chocolate filled marshmallows, has announced the closure of its 165,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution facility in Bethlehem.

The closure will impact 106 employees with layoffs scheduled between beginning October 26, 2024, and the facility's closure on November 9, 2024

It appears that the closure is part of the post-acquisition process after the company's acquisition by El Paso, Texas-based Mount Franklin Foods.

"August 27, 2024 – Mount Franklin Foods, LLC, a leading manufacturer of high-quality branded, contract and private label confectionary, nuts, snacks, and foodservice products, announces it has acquired the assets from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-based Stuffed Puffs, LLC. The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, is effective immediately."

According to Mike Tierney, founder and CEO of Stuffed Puffs, "We are thrilled to join the Mount Franklin Foods family. With a shared vision for the future of Stuffed Puffs, our strategic alignment with Mount Franklin Foods, together with its scale and resources, will be a major unlock for us to accelerate our growth trajectory and innovation pipeline."
