AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT REX FORGE

Plantsville, Connecticut-based Rex Forge, a contract manufacturer of impression die hot steel forgings, has announced the imminent closure of its facility.

The closure will impact all 103 employees, including the firm's CEO. Layoffs will occur between February 10, 2025, and February 24, 2025.

According to a company statement filed with the State of Connecticut, "On the evening of Wednesday, January 29, and with no advance notice or implication, Rex Forge was notified by Dana Corporation, its sole customer, that it has exercised its right to terminate its contract with Rex Forge to supply forgings to Dana. The termination of the contract was unexpected and unforeseen. Rex Forge had every reason to believe and expect that future business would continue from the daily actions and communications with Dana. It was shocking to receive the notice that Dana no longer wished to do any business with Rex Forge. Without the Dana contract, which represents the sole business for Rex Forge, the company cannot continue on and will be shutting down its operations permanently."

The two companies have a hostile and litigious history with claims and counterclaims of wrongdoing.

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT POLY-PAK INDUSTRIES

Melville, New York-based Poly-Pak Industries, a manufacturer of consumer and commercial plastic packaging and municipal signage, has announced a reduction in force.

The reduction will impact 146 employees at its plastic bag manufacturing facility, with separations commencing on May 1, 2025.

The decision was driven by the high cost of doing business on Long Island and the expiration of the company's lease. The location of the new office and manufacturing facility is unknown at this time. It appears that the property will be transformed into a $137.5 million four-story, 299-room, luxury extended-stay hotel.

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT IN-N-OUT

Irvine, California-based In-N-Out, a hamburger-based fast food restaurant chain, has announced that it will relocate its headquarters from Irvine, California, to Franklin, Tennessee, and its western corporate operations to Baldwin Park, California. The Tennessee location is now under construction and expected to open in late 2026.

The relocation will impact nearly 200 employees at the Irvine office by the end of 2029 when the Irvine location will close.

Lynsi Snyder, owner, and president, noted, "In every decision about the future of In-N-Out Burger, I give strong consideration to what my grandparents and my family would think is best for our company. I know my family would be in support of this move because it brings our In-N-Out family back together in a way that helps us better serve our Customers, who are the most important priority."
