AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT JOHN PAUL MITCHELL SYSTEMS

Century City, California-based John Paul Mitchell Systems, a manufacturer of hair care products and styling tools, has announced the relocation of its headquarters from California to Dallas, Texas, and will establish a new global distribution center.

Known for its long-term loyal employees, it is unknown how many employees the relocation will impact or if employment opportunities will remain in California.

Co-founder John Paul DeJoria noted, "I’m honored that John Paul Mitchell Systems was selected as a grant recipient through the Texas Enterprise Fund, enabling us to establish a major facility in Texas to serve U.S. and global markets. I’ve resided in Austin for 25 years and have the privilege of being deeply involved with the community. I know this initiative plays a key role in encouraging businesses like ours to invest in the local economy."

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT "AT HOME"

Dallas, Texas-based At Home, a home goods chain retailer offering home décor and furnishings, has commenced voluntary Chapter 11 proceedings in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, and proffered a financial restructuring plan aimed at ensuring the company’s long-term stability.

As part of the restructuring, At Home will close 26 underperforming stores, including eight stores in California, three locations in New Jersey, two locations in New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Washington, and one store in Florida, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania. This will impact hundreds of employees.

According to a spokesperson, "This decision is a result of broader economic and retail-specific market pressures, including rising interest rates, persistent inflation, unsustainable customs costs due to increased tariffs, a slowdown in the home decor market, and shifting consumer preferences towards online shopping.
