AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT AYR WELLNESS

Miami, Florida-based Ayr Wellness, a vertically integrated, multi-state cannabis operator, has announced the closure of cultivation facilities in 2 states, Massachusetts and Nevada as part of a financial restructuring initiative that will result in closures and asset sales in eight states, Florida, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.

The Milford, Massachusetts, facility will impact 157 employees on September 29, 2025, and 82 employees located in Sparks, Nevada, on July 30, 2025.

According to interim CEO Scott Davido, “Today marks a major milestone for AYR and the restructuring of its obligations, having agreed to a pathway to reduce its debt and seek to maximize value for all stakeholders. We look forward to continuing to work closely with our lenders as we execute the next steps in our restructuring plan as defined by the Restructuring Support Agreement."

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life, nor promises of a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT UFP INDUSTRIES

Grand Rapids, Michigan-based UFP Industries, a supplier of wood-based construction materials and ancillary products to industrial, commercial, and residential markets, has announced the closure of its Bonner, Montana Edge Prefinished manufacturing facility that produces exterior siding, trim, and patterned interior accent boards.

The closure will impact 104 employees, with layoffs commencing on September 27, 2025.

A spokesperson noted, “This is not an easy decision. We wish this facility had worked out. Montanans’ grit and perseverance are among our core values at UFP Industries. We spent 5 years working together to make it work, but big-picture realities beyond our control made consolidation unavoidable. We have committed to our Bonner employees that we will prioritize internal candidates for open positions across the UFP family of companies.”

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT METROHEALTH SYSTEM

Cleveland, Ohio-based MetroHealth System, a regional, non-profit, public health care system, has announced a less than 1.5% reduction in force to stabilize its finances as it experiences an unprecedented surge in the cost of care it delivers

The reduction will impact 125 employees, mainly in administrative positions across the organization, ranging from senior leaders to entry-level hires

CEO Dr. Christine Alexander-Rager noted, “This has been a difficult day for our MetroHealth family. We made these decisions in response to significant financial challenges facing our system. Despite your hard work and steady growth in our volumes, MetroHealth’s expenses continue to outpace revenues. And that gap is growing. Our immediate goals are to ensure that we finish 2025 in a more stable position and – just as important – that we protect our ability to care for our patients. The moves will also give MetroHealth more flexibility for strategic investments in its infrastructure and services, ensuring the system can continue to meet the rising demand for care while also embracing innovation and maintaining long-term sustainability."
