AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT SOLGEN POWER

Medford, Oregon-based Solgen Power, now known as Purelight Power, a solar energy contractor that sells and installs solar for homeowners, has announced the cessation of its Washington operations and will shutter all Washington State locations in 2026.

The closures will impact 106 employees, approximately half of whom are in the company's Pasco office and Richland warehouse. Layoffs are scheduled for January 13, 2026.

The company, which is mired in customer complaints about the company and its sales tactics and regulatory actions, refused to comment.

Change is constant, and it's coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life, nor promises of a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT PHILADELPHIA HOUSING AUTHORITY

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based Philadelphia Housing Authority, a municipal authority providing public housing services in Philadelphia, has announced a more than 20% reduction in force to redirect savings toward housing programs.

The reduction will impact 283 employees, mostly unionized maintenance and repair tradespeople in two phases, with the first happening on January 15, 2026, and the second in June 2026. The work will be outsourced to third-party vendors.

President and CEO Kelvin Jeremiah noted, “Decisions like this are never easy, but they are necessary to protect residents’ needs and to ensure the sustainability of our new and repositioned housing assets, and to mitigate potential future reductions in funding."

AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT MDWISE

Indianapolis, Indiana-based MDwise, a nonprofit healthcare company that offers state-sponsored health insurance plans, has announced it will cease operations and close its Indianapolis office in early 2026, following the termination of its state contract with Indiana Medicaid by the state's Family and Social Services Administration.

The closure will impact 238 employees, and layoffs are scheduled to begin on January 16, 2026.

According to a company statement, "The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s attack on MDwise should concern every Hoosier, especially those who rely on Medicaid for their health care needs. We have operated in good faith at every turn, and the state’s decision to terminate our contract ‘for convenience’ is unjustified and fails to consider the harm it will cause members, providers, employees, and communities."
