Keene, New Hampshire-based C&S Wholesale Grocers, a grocery supply chain wholesaler, and service provider to the independent grocery market industry, has announced a major reduction in force at its Suffield, Connecticut distribution center.
The mass layoff will affect 175 employees scheduled to occur between January 8, 2022, and January 21, 2022.
The decision was driven by the loss of a major customer, Stop & Shop stores, changing to an in-house self-distribution system. Stop & Shop stores accounted for 85% of the business at the warehouse and distribution center.
This follows 134 employee layoffs in the company's warehouse and distribution center located in Newburgh, New York. Other layoffs may occur as the company responds to Quincy, Massachusetts-based Ahold Delhaize, the company parent now engaging in an ongoing operational transformation of its East Coast supply chain into “a fully integrated, self-distribution model.”
Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
