AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT BOSTON UNIVERSITY (07/07/25)

JULY 7, 2025 — 120 STAFF EMPLOYEES TARGETED

Boston University has announced a one-percent reduction in its workforce to meet a five percent budget reduction target.

The reduction will impact 120 staff employees, and the school will leave another 120 roles unfilled.

President Melissa Gilliam noted, “Every effort has been made to limit the number of layoffs, and these actions will apply to approximately 1% of our employees. Still, we know that any reduction in staffing is painful. This is a day of loss for all of us. There is no way around this. We know our community may need time to adjust to these difficult changes. Yet, it is also a necessary step in ensuring our future. Over the coming months, there will be many efforts to reshape and reimagine the University in its most efficient and vital form.”

Change is coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life or promises for a bright future. Just because something bad hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening.
