Redwood City, California-based Electronic Arts, the iconic video game company, has announced a 3% reduction in force, including the shutdown of BioWare, the development studio behind games such as Dragon Age and Mass Effect.
The shutdown will impact 400 employees, including 50 employees at BioWare.
According to EA Chief Operating Officer David Tinson and Chief Studios Officer Cam Weber, “Over the past several months, we’ve taken a hard look at our business and will cut some projects, including the next Mass Effect game, which was in early development at BioWare. Across our portfolio, we’re making deliberate choices to align talent and investments where we see the greatest opportunities for players and long-term growth."
Some pundits attribute the poor performance of BioWare to its intrusion into the "woke" culture, including a two-minute cut scene that lectures players about misgendering someone.
Change is constant, and it's coming. Tomorrow will always come, no matter how much you try to ignore it. Life offers no guarantees, nor promises of a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you wondering, "Am I Next?"
