AM I NEXT? NO LOVE AT FIFTH THIRD BANK

Cincinnati, Ohio-based Fifth Third Bancorp, a regional bank holding company, has announced additional post-merger workforce reductions following its $10.9 billion acquisition of Comerica Bank.

The personnel realignment will affect 234 employees located at the former Dallas, Texas-based Comerica Bank operations center in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Layoffs are scheduled to be completed by September 11, 2026. This follows the May 2026 announcement that the bank would be laying off 502 employees at the former Comerica Bank corporate office in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

According to a company spokesperson, “We consistently review our operations to ensure we’re organized for long‑term growth and sustainable profitability. That means aligning staffing with future business needs and creating meaningful opportunities for our teammates in the process. Decisions like these are never easy but position us to deliver more value for our customers, communities, and shareholders. We’re committed to treating every impacted colleague with respect and providing support throughout the transition.”

Change is constant, and it's coming. There will always be a tomorrow, no matter how much you may try to ignore it. There are no guarantees in life, nor promises of a bright future. We see good people being laid off through no fault of their own. Just because something terrible hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere. No one is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow and still have a job by evening. While many employees can read the writing on the wall, why do most assume it’s targeted at someone else? Are you now wondering, Am I Next?
